This intervention-focused seminar will examine the variables that must be considered to teach an alternative communication system (with focus on sign language) and successfully transition a child from an alternative communication system to a vocal communication system. Methods to improve speech intelligibility based on Nancy Kaufman's work (successive approximations) and research from the fields of speech-language pathology and behavior analysis will be presented.
