Diabetes Mellitus (DM) Is a highly prevalent metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin function.  Hearing loss has long been associated with DM, however, contradictory evidence in the literature led to lack of support for consideration of hearing loss as part of on-going DM management.  In this lecture we will discuss direct and indirect effects of DM on auditory function and the importance of early identification in prevention and treatment of hearing loss.
